Sheila Kalas, B.S., M.S.
Owner and founder, Fitness Plus Inc.

Sheila has her master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Kentucky . She has worked as an exercise physiologist and personal trainer since 1989. She is a fitness expert, published writer and speaker. Sheila is the director of the Personal Fitness Training Certificate Program, founded in 2010, at the Lexington Healing Arts Academy.

Amy Naber
Yoga Instructor

Amy has a master's degree in counseling psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, Calif. She has been practicing in the healing arts since 1995. Amy holds a Yoga Alliance certification as a yoga practitioner for adults and is a certified pre- and post-natal yoga teacher. She is also certified to teach Children and Families Yoga and is a certified personal trainer (CPT). She had her own studio in San Francisco and has designed yoga/wellness programs for people in California, Hawaii, and Colorado. Her unique combination of skills allows her to serve many clients with an overall aim for improved health, serenity, and well-being. Amy enjoys working with people who are new go yoga and those who are coming back from injury or illness.

Bob Wharton
Massage Therapist

Bob Wharton is a 1994 graduate of Florida School of Massage. He is trained in orthopedic, sports and medical massage & flexibility techniques from the world- renowned Aaron Mattes Clinic in Sarasota, Fla., and the Wharton Performance Clinic in New York City. Bob has more than 16 years’ experience working with athletes and repetitive motion injuries, and adults trying to maintain balance, increase flexibility and alleviate pain

“My focus is on the prevention of injuries and the increased flexibility, mobility and health of muscles, tendons and ligaments, to reduce the risk of muscle strain and tear.”

Chris Morris
Personal Trainer

Chris received his master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Kentucky, where he played football for three years. He has trained several high school athletes who have gone on to sign with Division 1 athletic programs. Utilizing the concepts of fundamental strength and conditioning, Chris keeps workouts upbeat and exciting for clients. He holds a nationally recognized certification, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Chris Williams
Personal Trainer

Chris Williams has a bachelor of science in exercise physiology from Murray State University and has been a professional baseball player, where he helped design team workouts. As an educator, he shows clients the proper way to do exercises and explains how they help with overall health. (Improper form can cause injury!) As a motivator, Chris helps people prepare and get through each workout.

Gary Ditsch
Personal Trainer

Gary Ditsch is a strength and conditioning specialist and endurance sports coach. He leads individuals through a process of creating health and fitness, then supports them to achieve in their performances. Gary has a B.S. in exercise science and a master’s of science degree in health promotion. At the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, he began to think about performance and became involved with marathons and triathlons. He holds several nationally recognized certifications, including both the Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He also has his Level One Coaching Certification through USA Triathlon.

Jackie Hanson
Personal Trainer

Jackie has a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a master’s in kinesiology and health promotion, both from UK. She is trained by the American College of Sports Medicine as a health/fitness specialist. Her other areas of expertise include smoking cessation, weight loss and nutrition, and dealing with sedentary behavior.

Jennifer Patterson
Massage Therapist

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology/exercise science from UK, Jen Patterson completed a 550-hour massage therapy program at Bluegrass Professional Massage School of Lexington. Since 2001 she has been a licensed massage therapist (LMT) and nationally certified therapist of massage and bodywork (NCTMB). Jen specializes in sports and orthopedic massage therapy, myofascial therapy, neuromuscular therapy, trigger point therapy, and Swedish and deep-tissue massage. A triathlete and cyclest herself, Jen has been a part of the Louisville Ironman Sports Massage team since 2007. In 2010 she co-founded and co-chairs the American Massage Therapy Association’s (AMTA) Kentucky Sports Massage Team.

Josh Sato
Fitness Plus II Owner/Personal Trainer

Josh received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from Georgetown College, where he lettered four years in football. He uses the fundamentals of strength training, cardiovascular activity, and nutrition with his clients, along with a plethora of tools and exercises to keep workouts fun and exciting. Josh is president and owner of Fitness Plus II, which opened September 2011 in Bellerive Plaza, just across the Fayette County line in Nicholasville, Ky.

Katie Dennison
Personal Trainer

A former paramedic and firefighter, Katie has a master's degree in exercise physiology from the University of Kentucky, where she researched the occupational fitness of firefighters. She designs conditioning programs for occupational athletes, post-physical therapy clients, people with chronic back pain, and anyone wanting to improve endurance, strength, coordination and balance. She also provides nutrition counseling.

Laura Coombs
Personal Trainer

Laura has a master of science in exercise physiology. Her designation of CSCS means she is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. Her first job was in a physical therapy clinic in Brooklyn. She has also been an athletic trainer for high school and college sports teams and helps injured workers return to work at Toyota Motor Manufacturing.

“I educate individuals and families on healthy, long-term habits through my work at Fitness Plus. People should know more about how their bodies work than how their cars work.”

 


Lucy Hendricks
Personal Trainer

Lucy is a certified personal trainer (CPT), having earned the certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine. She is also certified as a Youth Fitness Specialist from the International Youth Condition Association. She became a personal trainer to give people of all ages the proper individual training foundation they need to ensure proper fitness. Lucy especially enjoys working with children and the elderly, both of whom have similar training needs to move correctly.

“Every exercise I have my clients do has its place, and a reason behind it. Everyone has different weaknesses and strengths. Fixing an individual’s posture and teaching that person how to move correctly can impact their life in more ways than they can imagine.”

 


Michael Seals
Personal Trainer

Michael has a master of science degree in athletic training from the University of Kentucky. He is also a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Michael has spent time working at the high school and collegiate levels, as well as working with military and law enforcement personnel. He enjoys training his clients and competes in mixed martial arts (MMA) competitions.

“I enjoy using a multi-faceted approach to training to help people reach their goals. Fitness should be a lifelong journey, so you might as well make it fun.”

 


Nikki Ditsch
Personal Trainer

Nikki has a bachelor of arts in kinesiology exercise science and a master of science degree in exercise physiology, both from the University of Kentucky. She is a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Her own fitness passions include triathlon and endurance sports. She loves helping people at all levels reach their personal fitness goals.y.

Rob Sweet
Personal Trainer

Rob has a degree in exercise physiology and is certified through the American Council on Exercise (ACE). As an accomplished athlete himself, he enjoys working with all types of athletes. He doesn’t consider being a personal trainer a job, but rather a privilege—to make people feel good about who they are from the inside out.
